keep on a short leash 遛狗牽的繩太短?還是得管嚴點兒
今天一開啟電腦就看到“貴州一小區8條狗遛彎後中毒身亡”的熱點事件,這其中的誰是誰非咱們不加評論,還是隻說回學英語的話題吧。說到遛狗有關的英文,大家肯定知道“walk dog”是遛狗了,關鍵就是這個“拴繩”的表達可是非常容易引起誤會的喲,大家可得千萬注意!
這個“leash”既是拴狗用的繩索,也可以當作動詞“束縛、控制”來講,所以“kept on a tight/short leash”這個短語就變了味兒,一般都是跟“人”來合用,表示“控制、約束某人”的意思,也就是我們所常說的“把某人管得很緊、管嚴點兒”的意思啦。
