the more……, the more……越……越……，看起來簡單，卻經常用錯

One cat， Sabrina， fell 32 storeys， yet only suffered from a broken tooth。 ‘Cats behave like well-trained paratroopers。’ a doctor said。 It seems that the further cats fall， the less they are likely to injure themselves。

有一隻叫薩伯瑞的貓從32層樓上掉下來，但只摔斷一顆牙。“貓就像訓練有素的跳傘隊員，” 一位醫生說。看起來，貓跌落的距離越長，它們就越不會傷害自己。

（1）suffer的用法

suffer作動詞表示“經受、遭受”同樣可以表示這個意思的還有

undergo： 多指經受艱難、痛苦、不愉快或危險等事。

experience： 指親身經受或體驗某事。

sustain： 指遭受痛苦或承受負擔。

suffer： 常可與sustain通用，尤指受到損害或傷害。

所以在文章中表示貓受到傷害時，使用的是suffer而不是undergo，什麼時候用undergo呢？比如

She has undergone chemotherapy and radiation。她經歷了化療和放療。

在使用suffer，後面常跟from或for，兩者意思不一樣。一個是源於，一個for表示原因，因…而倒黴，或受…之苦

（2）the further … the less

It seems that the further cats fall， the less they are likely to injure themselves。

在這個句子中採用的句型是the more …， the more的用法，表示越…越…，

句子中就是越遠…，越少…

在使用這種象形時，要注意使用的是倒裝句。

The more dangerous it is， the more I like it。 越危險我越喜歡。
