秋天，美國和加拿大英語用fall，英國和澳洲英語用autumn，本文采用美式英語。
北半球的秋天在9至11月，南半球的秋天在3至5月。
天文學中，北半球的秋天指秋分（autumnal equinox）到冬至（winter solstice）的這段時間。
Fall 秋天
1. Four Seasons 四季
Child： Mommy， it‘s cold outside， and there are lots of leaves on the ground。
寶寶：媽媽，外面好冷啊，地上還有好多葉子。
Mom： Yes， that’s because it‘s fall now。
媽媽：是的，因為現在是秋天了。
Summer is over， and it’s almost winter。
夏天過去了，冬天就要到了。
Do you remember the four seasons？ They are spring， summer， fall， and winter。
你還記得四季嗎？它們是春季、夏季、秋季和冬季。
2. Season of Harvest 收穫的季節
Mom： Fall is the time of year we harvest the crops。
媽媽：秋天是一年中收穫莊稼的季節。
Child： What does harvest mean？
寶寶：收穫是什麼意思？
Mom： Harvest means we pick the food from the farmers‘ fields。
媽媽：收穫就是把食物從農田裡摘下來。
Child： What kind of food？
寶寶：什麼樣的食物呢？
Mom： Fruits like apples and pears， and vegetables like squash and pumpkins。
媽媽：水果像蘋果和梨啊，蔬菜像各種瓜和南瓜啊。
Squash指南瓜屬蔬菜，包括pumpkin-南瓜、zucchini-綠皮密生西葫蘆、winter squash-冬南瓜等。由於pumpkin歷史悠久，且與萬聖節相關，人們通常把它單獨拿出來，與squash並列開來。注意，squash的單複數一樣。

3. Leaves Changing Colors 樹葉變顏色
Child： I really like red leaves。 Why do the leaves turn colors？
寶寶：我喜歡紅色的葉子。為什麼葉子會變色呢？
變色，change colors和turn colors兩種說法可以互換。
Mom： Because in spring and summer， the red， orange， and yellow colors arecovered up by the dominant green。
因為春天和夏天的時候，紅色、橙色和黃色被大量的綠色擋住了。
In fall， as the weather cools and shorter days settle in， the green fades away andreveals the other colors。
到了秋天，天氣變冷，白天變短，綠色褪去，就顯現出了別的顏色。
4. Falling Leaves 落葉
Mom： Then， the leaves fall off the tree。
媽媽：然後樹葉就從樹上掉下來了。
Child： I like to jump in the leaves！
寶寶：我喜歡在葉子上跳！
中文說在葉子“上”，但是英文用in，不用on。
Mom： Yes， that’s lots of fun。 I liked it when I was your age too。
媽媽：嗯，特別好玩。我像你這麼大的時候也喜歡玩。
The street cleaners have to rake the leaves and make big piles to put into bags for the garbage truck to take away。
清潔工需要把葉子耙到一起，堆成堆兒，放進垃圾袋裡，等待垃圾車把它們運走。
5. Hibernation 冬眠
Mom： Another thing that starts to happen in fall is hibernation。
媽媽：另外一件在秋天開始發生的事情是冬眠。
Child： What does hibernation mean？
寶寶：冬眠是什麼意思？
Mom： Hibernation is when some animals find a nice warm place to sleep through the winter。
媽媽：冬眠就是動物找一個暖和的地方，然後睡過一個冬天。
6. Change of Wardrobe 換季的衣櫃
Child： I like fall， but I like summer better。 It‘s warmer！
寶寶：我喜歡秋天，但是我更喜歡夏天。夏天暖和！
Mom： Yes， now that it’s getting cold outside we have to dress warmer。
嗯，因為現在外面變冷了，我們得穿暖和點。
We can‘t wear shorts and dresses and sandals anymore。
我們不能再穿短褲、裙子和涼鞋了。
We have to wear our sweaters， pants and shoes with socks。
我們得穿毛衣和長褲，穿鞋的時候要穿襪子。
When we go outside to play， remember to wear your coat and scarf。
我們出去玩的時候，記得穿大衣、戴圍巾。
Next season will be winter then spring and then it will be summer again。
下一個季節是冬天，然後是春天，然後就又是夏天了。
