雅思閱讀詞彙快速增長的方法，試過的人都說好

前面和大家介紹了over和under兩個字首，用這種方法相信很多人試過，確實能讓人詞彙大量增加，今天和大家再分享一個就是mis。

其中一個大家最熟悉的詞就是misunderstand，但是我問過很多同學這個詞到底是什麼意思，能說對的卻並不多。大家注意，它並不是not understand（不理解），如果我和你說瑞典語，你聽不懂，那叫not understand。但如果我和你說重慶話，你卻以為我在說瑞典語，那就叫misunderstand（誤解）。

所以mis-字首的含義是do something in a wrong way。用錯誤的方式做某事。如下是雅思閱讀中考過的一些mis-字首的詞：

misconception 錯誤的想法

mislead 誤導

misinterpret 錯誤地解讀

misrepresent 歪曲

misuse 濫用，破壞

mishandle 錯誤處理，處理不當

例題 1 判斷題

題目：Both descriptivists and prescriptivists have been misrepresented.

原文：In our own time, the opposition between ‘descriptivists’ and ‘prescriptivists’ has often become extreme, with both sides painting unreal pictures of the other.

雖然misrepresent這個詞的意思咱們剛講過，但是如果你忘記了怎麼辦？一點關係也沒有，你只要記得mis-字首的意思是有否定含義的就行了，如果在考點句中看到否定詞，你就大膽地認為它是mis-字首的同義替換詞。相信我，因為否定詞和否定詞的同義替換是雅思閱讀的超高頻考點。所以你只需要利用題目中的Both descriptivists and prescriptivists定位到原文中的both sides，然後又看到一個unreal是否定詞，這個題就可以認為是TRUE了。而misrepresent的含義= painting unreal pictures。mis- = unreal， represent= painting pictures。你有沒有想到字首還能拆成單詞單獨翻譯呢？這就是雅思考官的高明之處啊，把文字遊戲玩到了極致。類似的把戲還有很多，可以到Vincent老師的課堂上來感受把考官的小伎倆拉出來遊街的快感。

例題 2 判斷題

題目：Personnel in the past have been criticised for mishandling fire containment.

原文：Stung in the past by criticism of bungling that allowed fires to spread when they might have been contained, personnel are meeting the peculiar challenges of neighborhood - and canyon-hopping fires better than previously, observers say.

這道題裡面的mishandle這個詞，在原文中很難找到同義替換詞，但是聯絡文章主題講的是消防機構如何更好地處置加州大火地。那這個詞的意思就容易理解了，就是對火災處置不當的意思。就可以認為mishandle=allowed fires to spread when they might have been contained（使得本該被控制的火勢蔓延）。所以此題選TRUE。

最後送大家一首歌，當然也和咱們今天講的字首有關，因為情侶之間最容易misunderstand了，歌詞裡面怎麼能少得了它呢。這首歌是我最喜歡的挪威男聲二人組Kings of Convenience帶來的I’d rather dance with you。 裡面描述的是青年男女在三里屯蹦迪時候的一些心理活動，仔細體會吧。
