Leitz is a family enterprise in its fifth generation and with over 140 years of experience in the development and production of tools。 Which are the key factors that make the company successful in such a fast changing market？

The success of Leitz is based on a clear system of values and on the sustainable management as a family enterprise in the fifth generation。 The continuous focus on a long lasting business strategy is the most important factor for this positive development over decades。 Its purpose is to satisfy and inspire customers and as a result binding them to the brand Leitz。 Another important factor is to respond on customer requirements and market influences quickly and in a solution-oriented way。 Leitz manages this because of its short decision paths， its worldwide valid service and quality guidelines and the customer oriented innovations。

Did your company record a good 2016 and a good start in 2017 （i。e。： turnover， export， staff members， incoming orders）， both in Germany and the internationally？

We are satisfied with the business year 2016 as we could realize a respectable growth of incoming orders and turnover。 Thereby the export sales played an important role which has been supported accordingly by the fact of our global presence。 Yet the German market developed also very well and so we were able to continue in realizing new strategic approaches in the sector of advanced machines。

Leitz is the internationally successful premium manufacturer of innovative tools and tooling solutions with a wide range of services。 We are also a leading provider of ideas and innovations for numerous industries in the machining of wood， wood derived materials and advanced materials such as plastics。 Our own sales and service companies worldwide and our uncompromising quality promise， are arguments which are relevant to customers all over the world。

In the traditional European markets we are very well represent for example in the furniture production with our in-depth process know-how and further growth prospects are very positive in this sector。

Moreover， we also see great potential for further development on the North American market and in Asia。 The economic and flexible processing of panel materials， from mass production up to batch size one production， is an important topic for many customers in this market and exactly for this， Leitz has the right solutions。 As a tool manufacturer with very good and long-standing partnerships and connections with globally leading machine producers， we are in the position to supply successful solutions for any machine concept and almost every application for the customer。 Of course this is also valid for applications in the solid wood sector e。g。 in the window production or in the machining of advanced materials。

Oil palm-wood， it is a challenging issue for your R&D department？

油棕櫚木專案，對你們研發部門來說是一個具有挑戰性的課題嗎？

The industrial use of palm wood bears an enormous potential for the wood processing industries。 This also involves great challenges in the processing of this specific material economically。 As part of the network “PalmwoodNet”， Leitz is responsible for the layout of the cutting process to produce products or oil palm wood referring to suitable working processes and cutting methods。 In particular this includes the development of suitable tools to achieve the required quality and efficiency of the cutting processes。 In this field our R&D department has done excellent work during the last months and we are very proud that we were able to present these results on this year’s Ligna in Hannover。

Besides economic and process-oriented requirements of the market， Leitz always has dedicated itself to the support of sustainability in production and mainly to environmental protection。 By participating in this project we actively assume responsibility for the protection of our environment。 With our contribution we help to bring back the resource of ‘oil palm wood’ to the economic cycle。 Thereby， basics can be created which concern technical， economical， ecological and social aspects to help preventing the release of greenhouse gas and stabilizing the economy in the producing regions。
