雙語：是奇葩，還是為引起人們對食物浪費的關注？

There are lots of ways to raise awareness for a cause. Usually, the stranger the idea is, the more it gets noticed. And that’s precisely why one garbage-eating Frenchman has caught our attention.

有許多方式能讓人們意識到事物的初衷，但想法越奇葩，越能引起人們的注意。這不，有一位法國人透過撿垃圾吃來引起人們的關注。

Baptiste Dubanchet is biking across Europe，surviving entirely on discarded food. The three-month, 1 900-mile journey from Paris to Warsaw is Dubanchet’s way of raising awareness of food waste in Europe and throughout the world.

巴比提斯特·杜班切特騎腳踏車跨越歐洲，從巴黎出發到達華沙，整個騎行耗時三個月完，全靠丟棄的食物為生， 以引起歐洲及全世界的人對食物浪費的關注。

As you can imagine, the trip is no piece of cake. While restaurants throw away tons of food each year, much of it remains inaccessible because of locked garbage containers, health regulations, or business policies. Only about one in ten places offered him food that would otherwise be discarded.

你可以想象一下，整個行程沒有一塊麵包，雖然每年餐館丟棄的食物多達好幾千噸，但大部分被丟棄的食物由於受到商業政策、衛生法規的限制，或是被鎖在垃圾箱裡面，而不可食用。巴比提斯特•杜班切特所到之處，十個地方有九個地不給他提供這些即將被丟棄的食物。

For legal reasons, most restaurants have a policy against giving away food waste. "Some people have even risked their jobs by giving me food," Dubanchet said.

巴比提斯特•杜班切特說“由於法律的原因，餐館捐出殘羹冷炙大都是違反政策法規的，有的餐飲人員甚至冒著丟掉工作的風險而給他食物。”

What's particularly interesting is the attitude various cities have toward Dubanchet’s cause. Berlin has been the easiest while the most difficult was the Czech town of Pilsen. There, he had to ask at some challenge different stores or restaurants before finding food. The 50 is all the more serious when you consider the demanding exercise required to bike from France to Poland.

"I have to get food fast because after all the biking I am tired and I need the energy,"Dubanchet explained. "Is my stomach full or empty? That is the most important thing, not what I am eating.

He aims to finish his journey by mid-July. With any luck, he’ll turn a few more heads in the process.
