in the case of
如果看到 in the case of 。。。這樣的短語，都覺得非常好理解，case 的意思為“事例、案例、情形”。整個短語意為“在。。。情形下，在。。。例子中”。如：
In the case of sick leave
在病假的情況下
In the case of his health
就他的健康看來
in that/this case
這是一組介詞短語，表“在那樣／這樣的情形下”，如這樣的句子：
Time is a very important consideration in this case。
在這種情況下，時間是極為重要的因素。
He is said to be not at home。 In that case， we shall not go there。
聽說他不在家， 那麼我們不去了。

然而，當in和case中間的詞消失後，一切都變了
in case 做連詞，連線主句和從句，表“以防、萬一、如果”。比如：
In case anyone was following me， I made an elaborate detour。
為了防止有人跟蹤我，我特地繞了彎路。
