在描述日期時，英文有自己的一套表達方式：

日期包括年、月、日三個部分。

在英文中，一年的12個月有各自的英文名稱對應，分別是：

一月 January

二月 February

三月 March

四月 April

五月 May

六月 June

七月 July

八月 August

九月 September

十月 October

十一月 November

十二月 December

而在描述日期中的具體日子時，英文中要用序數詞，而不是基數詞。基數詞是用來表示數量的，比如three apples（3個蘋果）中的three就是基數詞。序數詞是用來描述“第幾”的，比如my first child（我的第一個孩子）中first就是序數詞，表示第一。年月日中的日，用的就是序數詞。

序數詞的拼寫方式也和普通數字不同：

對一般序數詞來說，要在數字結尾加上th，比如：

第四 fourth （4th），第六 sixth （6th），第七 seventh （7th），第十 tenth （10th）

但有些序數詞卻沒有完全遵循這個規則，比如：

第一 first （1st） 第二 second （2nd） 第三 third （3rd）

第五 fifth （5th） 第八 eighth （8th） 第九 ninth （9th）

第十二 twelfth （12th） 第二十 twentieth （20th）

對20以上的序數詞，“幾十”的部分是不變的，只有個位數部分發生變化，比如：

第二十一 twenty-first （21st）

第二十二 twenty-second （22nd）

第二十三 twenty-third （23rd）

第二十四 twenty-fourth （24th）

…

要注意：在使用序數詞表示“第幾”時，需要用the + 序數詞，比如the first。

在描述日期時，英文中的年、月、日要按照一定的順序排列，通常有兩種表達方式：

日（the+序數詞） + 月 + 年 or 月 + 日（the+序數詞） + 年

例如，你可以說：

the thirteenth of May， 1979 或者 the 13th of May， 1979

你也可以說：

May the thirteenth， 1979 或者 May the 13th， 1979
